The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the foundation of Christianity. It was an act of love initiated by God and executed by Christ. It created a whole new species of humanity and without it there would be no Christianity today.
Yet, Christians all over the world struggle with the concepts of the Gospel. Christians as a whole lack a clear understanding of what the Gospel really is. Where can we find the Gospel? Is the Gospel the same as the Bible? What is Scripture and is it part of the Gospel? What about the Ten Commandments?
The problem that Christians face today is that the Gospel gets lost in the many teachings and doctrines of Christianity.
We have thousands of different denominations, so called sub-groups of Christianity. Each denomination has its own interpretation of the Bible, certain beliefs about how Christianity should be lived. Yet the one event that should unite Christians across the board – the Gospel of Jesus Christ – is rarely at the center of teachings.
Christians can quote the Bible left and right, they have great understanding on certain theological topics based on what the Bible says. However, the question that remains is: Do they really know and are they aware of who lives in them and what that means for them?
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the central event in the history of mankind. It not only changed the destiny of humanity in regards to the afterlife but it totally altered the human spirit in this life. Christ made a way for God’s Spirit to reside in humanity once again. A union of perfection, made possible through love – His perfect love. This is the good news, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Christ in humanity and humanity in Christ. The implications of this historic event are so grand that just the slightest comprehension of what that means for us, will result in perfect peace. Peace beyond understanding because we know and are fully aware of who we are in Christ and who Christ made us to be.
To put it in the words of the Apostle Paul:
And you are in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life [in Christ you too are filled with the Godhead – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – and reach full spiritual stature].Colossians 2:9-10 AMP
God now lives in you and in me. This is what Paul meant when he said that the Godhead continues to dwell in bodily form (even though Christ is no longer living on this earth physically). Thanks to Christ’s sacrifice we have been made part of the Godhead through and in union with Christ. It was accomplished in the spirit, our eternal being is a spiritual being and our union with Christ is a spiritual union. This spiritual being of ours as part of the Trinity (through Christ) is now living in our bodies and is giving complete expression of the divine nature (as Paul put it so beautifully). That is us! That is our reborn human spirit!
What an amazing concept. The infinite God living in each and every Christian today. It cannot be comprehended in human terms or with human logic or reasoning. It cannot be comprehended by looking at it from a material perspective. It can only be comprehended in the spiritual realm and from a spiritual perspective.
Paul goes on to write “And you are in Him (Christ), made full and having come to fullness of life … and reach full spiritual stature.” Wow, what an amazing revelation of God’s love for mankind. Not only did He die for us but in doing so, He gave us the same spiritual life that He possesses. Everything that He is, He made us to be in like manner. Remember that God is a spiritual being and we are now spiritual beings, created in Christ. We have come to fullness of life, we have been raised to full spiritual stature. Full implies that there cannot be more or less, not gain or loss but it is already the fullest measure, the most complete, the highest, the grandest. Yes, that is the life that we possess in Christ. This is who we are as Christians. This is the good news – the Gospel!
We invite you to go on this journey with us and discover everything that Christ is in and for us. Discover who He made us to be spiritually. Who we are in this life – now – as a result of what He did and not what we do. This new spiritual life that we possess is not something that will grow or that we attain eventually – it is something we possess now based on what He did almost 2,000 years ago. It is hidden in Christ and it is up to us to discover and comprehend it and walk in increasing awareness of it.
Let’s peel back all the layers that religion and Christianity has wrapped around the Gospel and let’s discover our spiritual identity in Christ. Yes, let’s comprehend what it means to be part of the Godhead – now – in this life!
