Having faith to change your circumstances will never have the same fulfillment or lasting effect as having faith in who you spiritually are — your spiritual identity (based on Christ in you, the Gospel, the Truth). Faith in who you spiritually are supersedes circumstances because it focuses on the spiritual you rather than the human you.
Circumstances change but your spiritual identity does not.
The spiritual you in actuality is the true you and it is independent of circumstances. It was created by Christ’s redemptive work and that work was completed almost 2,000 years ago and resulted in a new you. A new identity that was born spiritually out of God and the old you (life without God, separated from God) has died with Christ on the cross.
Your faith now rests in the fact that you are in Him — perfectly united and one in Spirit. In this kind of faith, circumstances are secondary because in Him (in this new spiritual identity) there is perfect peace. Jesus’ last words to his disciples before he was captured as recorded by John:
Mainstream Christianity and the world in general focus too much on earthly circumstances (the seen realm) and too little on spiritual truth (the perfect unseen realm as initiated by Christ through His act of love on the cross).
People allow their circumstances to define their view of themselves rather than allowing spiritual truth (oneness with God through Christ) define who they are.
This is very dangerous because it automatically results in a distorted view of how God sees them and what He did for them. It is tainted by this earthly world and as a result the blessing or presence of God is measured by earthly circumstances and material “blessings”. In reality, the blessing of God (or in other words, His view of you or His will for you) can only be found in Christ. God united with mankind so mankind can be united with God. That is true blessing and it was given almost 2,000 years ago.
This kind of faith will automatically shift the focus away from your circumstances and put it on your spiritual being (your spiritual identity) which is perfect in Christ.
Sooner or later it will not matter any more what circumstances come at you, because of who lives in you.
God will be glorified in you because you choose to glorify Him by placing your faith in Christ’s finished work. You will see yourself like He sees you — a perfect and whole being created in the image of Christ.
The kingdom of God has truly come! It is now!
